Feeling Terri-cited!
December 3, 2021
When I asked a dear friend and client, how she felt about starting her new job, she said,
“Terrified and excited. Terri-cited?”
Talk about perfectly encapsulating a familiar sensation.
In the Yaysayers, the group coaching community I lead, we recently discussed how multi-faceted our emotions can be.
One Yaysayer said she felt “relieved and devastated” after the New Orleans Mayor announced Mardi Gras parades were cancelled this year.
As a public health expert she knew it was the right call, but as a self-described “Mardi Gras and costuming freak” she was heartbroken.
A Yaysayer from New York described a similar feeling when Mayor de Blasio cancelled the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
We can hold a multitude of concurrent, sometimes contradictory emotions. It’s powerful to name each of them, especially when they seem in conflict.
You’re not weird or broken when your emotions don’t seem to match up. Everything you’re feeling is perfectly normal.
We’re in this together.
PS If you’d like more support in navigating your multifaceted emotions and taking action in 2021, join me for my 5-week course.
Here’s what Mel Merz said about why she signed up:
“I've been thinking a lot lately about needing a community of ambitious, motivated, accountability partners. Very excited about this timing!”
You can join us here. I’d love to have you in the group!
