I (Really) Didn’t Want To Do This…
July 27, 2021
I really didn’t want to do this.
When I started my business, online courses seemed like a scam. On social media, entrepreneurs talked about them like they were a magical elixir to secure passive income.
I felt like I was “supposed to” have a course to be a “real” entrepreneur. I reluctantly made one.
As you might expect, it was a bust. I hated every step, and it completely fizzled.
Fast forward to today, my new negotiation course is the single (nonhuman) thing I’m most proud of having created.
You Got This: The Ultimate Negotiation Course for Professional Women takes you step-by-step through the negotiation process in a format that’s as supportive as it is delightful.
Here’s what changed since that first course:
If you’ve attended one of my live events, you know I love interactivity. I adapt my content in real time to ensure it resonates with the audience, virtual or otherwise.
I was worried that the way I hold space for people wouldn’t translate into a pre-recorded format, that it would feel flat and one-directional.
Those worries subsided when I had 3 realizations:
Accessibility is a priority for me.
People absorb information differently. That’s why I’m deliberate about integrating writing activities, discussion, and storytelling in my events. Offering a course that’s entirely self-paced and incorporates different learning styles felt very much in alignment with my values surrounding accessibility.
I also wanted to create a program that was financially accessible. When I was taking new coaching clients, my fee was about $1,000/month. That’s prohibitive for a lot of folks. For now, I’ve priced this course at $297, deliberately far below market value, making this resource available to a lot more people.People crave on-demand support for upcoming negotiations.
Clients and friends typically reach out to me a few days (sometimes a few hours) before a negotiation. Short of creating a 24-hr negotiation hotline, I wanted to find a way to support people in the midst of their real-time negotiations.Negotiation can be transformative.
I stand for a new vision of negotiation – one that centers equity, collaboration, and mutual benefit. My commitment is to help women recognize their strengths, to reclaim negotiation as something we do all the time and are pretty damn good at already. Coaching negotiation is a key way of living my values.
After coming to these realizations, my biggest remaining concern was whether people would have the same powerful outcomes that they've had working with me in real time.
I’m happy to report that the answer is a resounding yes.
After taking the course, one client wrote to me to say,
“I now have a new sense of confidence, language, and perspective when entering a negotiation.”
Another client was so amped after taking the course, she immediately bought 3 more copies to share with friends.
Lastly an early adopter described the course as,
“Positively enlightening and a joy to watch.”
If you’re ready to increase your impact, advocate for what you value, and have fun in the process, check out the course. I can’t wait to hear what you think!
