My Go-to Tool for a Confidence Boost

April 15, 2021

When someone gives negative feedback, every detail can stick in our brains indefinitely.

But what about a positive reaction?

Mere hours after someone gave me particularly meaningful feedback, all I could remember is, “So-and-so said something nice.”

People tend to shrug off the affirmations pretty quickly.

This is where a Kudos List comes in. When my clients receive particularly resonant praise, I encourage them to write it down immediately.

Imagine if every time you felt discouraged or questioned yourself, you had a list of the specific, meaningful, positive feedback you’d received from trusted colleagues and friends.

As one client told me, “Every time I look back at my Kudos List, I feel strengthened and more confident.“

It’s also a great tool when you’re seeking a raise, or going after a new position or client.

Attributing the positive feedback to someone else is a powerful way to demonstrate competence without seeming egotistical.

Here are some ways you can bring it into a conversation:

  • “Some of the most meaningful feedback I’ve received is…”

  • “Clients/colleagues often describe my work as…”

  • “A client/colleague captured my style well when they said...”

Are you ready to start your kudos list?

What’s been some of the most resonant feedback you’ve received? Hit reply to share so I can celebrate with you!
